Jörg Sasse:
Speicher II

Even before his studies at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Jörg Sasse was concerned with everyday culture. Thus, he initially produced mainly black-and-white photographs of apartments and shop windows, which became exclusively color and increasingly reduced when he began his studies in 1982. In the early 1990s, Sasse seems to have entered new territory by processing digitized photographs on the computer and transforming them into large-format tableaus. As source material for this, Sasse now frequently uses analog amateur photographs that he himself had collected. To this day, Sasse's work is accompanied by questions about visual manifestations of everyday culture, most recently, for example, in the works of the Cotton Paintings, which are based on Sasse's collection of high-resolution scans of a wide variety of industrially produced fabrics. Sasse always negotiates the question of the medium itself, with its properties and conditions in flux, from photochemical processes to AI-generated image collages.

DFI e.V. is very pleased to be able to show Jörg Sasse's Speicher II in its project space. Speicher II is filled with visual material from the Ruhr region, created between the 1950s and 2000s, and represents one of four realized Speicher(storages) to date, all of which negotiate contemporary possibilities of non-hierarchical documentation.

On the first evening of the lecture (Oct. 17) Sasse will lead a chronological tour through his work, while on the second evening (Oct. 18) he will focus on his work Speicher II. At this point, various hangings from Speicher II will also be realized on site, which participants are cordially invited to select.
