Towards Photography is a platform for exhibitions, talks, workshops, interviews and essays, both on-site and online. The programme explores photography in its many forms through artistic practice, reflection and discussion. Its name draws on Vilém Flusser’s Towards a Philosophy of Photography from 1983, inviting a critical examination of the apparatus and assumptions underlying photography.
Initiated by DFI e.V., an independent artists’ initiative, the platform emerged from the conceptual work on the German Institute for Photography (Deutsches Fotoinstitut – DFI) in Düsseldorf.
Under the artistic direction of Moritz Wegwerth, it brings together artists, curators, theorists, researchers and institutions to exchange ideas.
The visual identity and concept were developed in collaboration with Edi Winarni.
Towards Photography is made possible with support from the Cultural Office of the City of Düsseldorf.
