Film screening in cooperation with Filmwerkstatt Düsseldorf
Jan Dibbets is one of the most influential pioneers of contemporary photography and a leading figure of Conceptual and Minimal Art. Furthermore, his work marks a fundamental turning point in the history of art. How are these statements reflected in both the artist’s work and his ideas? The documentary short film Jan Dibbets: This Giant Child explores this question and draws a portrait illustrating how the artist’s oeuvre has been characterized by a concentrated, analytical, forward-looking perspective since its beginnings in the 1960s to the present day. Jan Dibbets is particularly interested in what remains unknown about the nature of the medium. The basis for the film, which was made in cooperation with the film production company ATM, is an interview conducted in the artist’s studio in February 2022.
The screening will be followed by a get-together, to which all guests are warmly invited.
