Artist Talk
Eiskellerberg 1-3
40213 Düsseldorf
The talk will be held in German.
Duration: approx. 1h
The DFI e.V. is pleased to present an artist talk with Armin Linke and Max Dax as part of the Towards Photography event series.
Armin Linke (born 1966 in Milan) is an artist working in the fields of photography and film. His practice initiates processes that analyze the medium itself—its technologies, narrative structures, and entanglements within broader socio-political contexts. In his work, Linke poses fundamental questions that extend to the very edges of photography: the authorship of images, the conception of archives, and technological advancements such as photogrammetry, whose profound impact on our understanding of photography can, for now, only be articulated as speculative visions of the future.
Above all, Armin Linke is recognized as a photographic chronicler of the Anthropocene. Across countless research trips, he has continuously captured visual evidence from thousands of locations where human activity is actively reshaping the planet, geography, and societal structures.
Max Dax (born 1969 in Kiel) is a publicist, curator, and photographer who has long navigated the intersection of visual art, literature, and music—well before his tenure as editor-in-chief of Alert, Spex, and Electronic Beats magazines.
As a curator, he conceived and realized the acclaimed exhibitions HYPER! – A Journey into Art and Music (Deichtorhallen Hamburg, 2019) and Black Album / White Cube (Kunsthal Rotterdam, 2022), both of which explored the dynamic interplay between art and music.
Since 2016, Max Dax has been hosting high-profile artist talks at Berlin’s Santa Lucia Galerie der Gespräche. His debut novel, DISSONANZ – ein austauschbares Jahr (2021), was recognized by Alexander Kluge in Spiegel (2022) as one of his three personal “literary highlights of recent years.”
Armin Linke and Max Dax have been in regular dialogue since 2010, a connection reflected not only in numerous interviews published over the years but also in public discussions—such as the upcoming conversation on March 11 at the DFI e.V. project office.
